Inflatable Pontoon Boating Fundamentals eBook TE Lewis
Reminiscent of an Army instruction manual in style, this is a no-nonsense guide that doesn’t waste time with peripheral information. To that end, although the title of the book contains the word “Fundamentals”, Lewis does discuss in the first page the knowledge and experience he’s assuming:
"Before reading this you should be familiar with inflatable pontoon boat terminology, river classifications, and have practiced navigating your inflatable pontoon boat on a still water lake or pond. You should have an understanding of some of the potential hazards and dangers inflatable pontoon sportsmen face when navigating rivers. You should also have begun researching the section of river you're interested in floating."
So, it’s not intended for the complete beginner.
However, it does nevertheless give a very respectable overview of at least the main safety points and practical considerations, and if the reader takes away even only a few hints and tips that are useful, then it’ll have been worth the cost of the book.

Inflatable Pontoon Boating Fundamentals eBook TE Lewis Reviews
This guide is very detailed and concisely done. It takes you through the before or preparation, the adventure, and how to maintain your gear afterwards. It takes you through many different possible situations that can arise while boating - good and bad. The drawing and pictures most certainly helped visualize what was going on throughout the handbook. One thing that I really liked was how at the end, always let someone know your plan. We have this mentality whenever we travel far off, but we should do this even for the not so far off. It also had a very good balance of personal anecdotes and clear technical things to do. It makes the knowledge a bit more personal for the reader. I will most certainly refer to this guide constantly whenever I plan to boat in the future. It's short, concise, and talks about what it needs to talk about.
“Inflatable Pontoon Boating Fundamentals” is a handy guide on prepping for your first pontoon boat voyages. The book provides incredibly helpful hand-drawn diagrams as well as photographs from the author’s own experiences. The book mostly focuses on safety, but also offers some general headache-saving tips for not only would-be pontoon boaters, but fly fishers as well. The book is clearly written with a perspective of experience and know-how, and the author provides their qualifications without trying too hard to sell themselves to the reader.
While “Inflatable Pontoon Boating Fundamentals” does not have the most visually attractive formatting, and at times does have odd, colloquial, and imperfect grammar/punctuation, the book more than makes up for these minor flaws with a fantastic offering of information that even I, as a non-pontoon boater (who has some ocean boating experience,) could understand. I found the hand-drawn diagrams to be very helpful, as each one illustrated precisely what was being explained on the page. Additionally, the care and passion the author has for this sport is communicated very clearly, in a manner both endearing and inspiring.
Inflatable Pontoon Boating by T.E. Lewis is a highly informative book which focuses on making sure the reader gets all the essential information on having fun and being safe while using inflatable pontoons. The book begins by giving some background on the author and explaining why he is an expert on the topic. He lets us know that he has done extensive work on rivers and has been working with state and federal organizations to bring seminars and other sources of information to the public on this topic. He then goes into some terminology anyone using these crafts should be aware of and how to properly move them. What I was unaware of is that these crafts can be moved assembled or un-assembled as well as either inflated or un-inflated. This seems to depend on the travel distance and the comfort of the individual. From here, the author dives into many of the necessary lessons anyone planning on using these crafts should know about in order to keep themselves safe while out on the water.
I feel this book was written for a very specific niche of people, but it does a great job of getting the information across in an easy to read manner. The book is short, but it does pack lots of information into very few pages. There are some typographical and grammatical errors in the reading, but they do not take away from the message that is being presented. The author has also done a great job of using images to help the reader understand the topics which are being discussed. I feel this author has a future as an informative outdoor writer and should consider looking into other topics involving the outdoors to write about.
